In Sanborn, Iowa, in 1939, Southern Truck was founded as the South Side Junkyard, a scrap iron and metal company that aided in the war effort. When new components became increasingly hard to come by in the final years of the war, John Sr. recognized the necessity to supply high-quality recycled salvaged parts. After 20 years of success in the vehicle salvage sector, John C. Vander Haag Jr. took over the company in 1955. He kept advancing the customer-focused approach that his father had taught him. In an effort to improve service by offering truck parts and maintenance services, John C. relocated the company’s headquarters to Spencer, Iowa. Under the present leadership of John M. Vander Haag, his vision has been advanced, allowing Southern Trucks to establish itself as a nationally known leader in the Used Truck Sales, Parts, Service, and Equipment Industry.
